Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

In a world filled with so much judgment, hatred, and violence, it’s often difficult to look past that and view the world as a kind place. Even if the world around you seems like it will never be a peaceful, loving place, you can still make a small difference. Sure, a single person can’t stop people from being mean or violent towards each other, and world peace is not within one person’s reach. However, what we all can do to promote peace, love, and a general respect for others is practice random acts of kindness. An act of kindness, no matter how small, can have such a powerful ripple-effect on others. When people are treated with kindness, they will often convey that same kindness towards others and before you know it, you’ve impacted quite a few people. No act of kindness is menial or unimportant; anything done with kindness is significant and beneficial to our world today. (Oddysy)

Today, I looked back on my whole day to see if I did some small acts of kindness and I felt relieved and happy to find that our little compassion can make others feel so much better.

1. I helped my roommate pack her luggage as she was getting late for Daewoo.

2. I made lunch for a hostel fellow because she was injured and couldn’t walk.

3. I took Ali, the small baby brother of a friend to VC market as he was getting bored in the hostel.

4. I lent a helping hand to a junior in washing dishes

5. I listened to a friend

“People who engage in kind acts become happier over time,” says Sonja Lyubomirsky, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of California, Riverside. She has studied happiness for over 20 years. According to that research when you are kind to others, you feel good as a person — more moral, optimistic, and positive. Performing other positive acts once a week led to the most happiness.

According to Dr. David R. Hamilton, acts of kindness create an emotional warmth, which releases a hormone known as oxytocin. Oxytocin causes the release of a chemical called nitric oxide, which dilates the blood vessels. This reduces blood pressure and, therefore, oxytocin is known as a “cardioprotective” hormone. It protects the heart by lowering blood pressure. Another research shows that mortality is delayed, depression is reduced and well-being and good fortune are increased due to kindness.
